Features

Term Life

With benefit amounts from $20,000 to $1.5 million, Ethos gives term-life shoppers a variety of options.

  • Policy terms of 10, 15, 20 and 30 years
  • Policies can be renewed up to age 95
  • Choices include simplified issue and fully underwritten policies
  • Medical exams often not required
  • Convenient online applications can often be completed in minutes

Whole Life

Guaranteed issue allows just about anyone meeting the age requirements to qualify, regardless of health issues. The benefit amounts range from $10,000 to $25,000, which are usually suitable for covering final expenses, such as funeral costs.

  • Quick and easy application process, with instant coverage available
  • Death by covered travel-related accident could double the benefit

Application Process

Whole-life applicants just need to provide some basic information to confirm their identity and age to qualify for a guaranteed-issue policy, which can go into effect as soon as you provide your payment information.

Term life applications require a little more information about your health and lifestyle. Like other insurers, Ethos also pulls information from third-party databases on things such as your prescription, credit and driving history. Most people will qualify for simplified-issue term life, including those who might not qualify for a traditional policy, due to age or health. However, applicants seeking higher death benefits might need a fully underwritten policy, which may require a medical exa. The premiums for fully underwritten policy are typically less per amount of coverage than those for simplified issue policies.

Policy Types and Terms

Applicants aged 20 to 65 can choose from terms of 10, 15, 20 and 30 years, with benefit amounts from $20,000 to $1.5 million. The policies are issued by reputable carriers—Legal & General America, Ameritas Life Insurance Corp. and TruStage. The application usually only takes minutes, and most customers don’t need to undergo a medical exam or lab tests.

Ethos’ whole life policies, issued by AAA Life Insurance Company, are a solid choice for those aged 65 to 85 seeking a whole life policy. The policies come with graded death benefits, from $10,000 to $25,000. With a graded death benefit, your beneficiary only receives the premiums you’ve paid, with 30% interest, if you die within the policy’s first two years, unless you are killed in a covered accident. If you die after that, or anytime in a covered accident, the policy pays the full benefit amount.

Privacy and Security

Ethos promises to not sell your data or personal information and follows encryption protocols to secure data being transferred over its networks. It’s website is rated A by Qualys’ SSL labs, and the company regularly conducts third-party audits of its data security.
